How the matcher works

Each color’s hex value comes from the brand’s own color page. We convert it to CIE Lab (D65) and rank every color in the other brands by CIEDE2000 (ΔE 2000), the color-difference formula used in paint and print quality control.

Under 1: most people cannot tell the two apart.
1 to 2: visible only side by side, in good light.
2 to 4: close, but you will notice on adjoining walls.
Over 4: a similar look, not a substitute.

A screen match is a starting point. Sheen, lighting and the base each brand uses all shift a color on the wall, so paint a sample of the match next to the original before you buy gallons.
