About Paint Color Lab

Paint Color Lab is a small, independent site run by Biel Vazquez. Independent developer in Tarragona, Spain, who builds websites, SaaS products and online shops.

Biel Vazquez, founder and editor

I’m Biel Vazquez, an independent developer in Tarragona, Spain. I build websites, SaaS products and online shops, and I also run PayoutCost, Wire & Watts and Revendelo.

I started Paint Color Lab because paint brands only show their own colors. If you like a Sherwin-Williams color but your painter uses Benjamin Moore, or your store only sells Behr or Valspar, the brand pages can’t tell you which of their colors is closest. That question has a measurable answer, so the site measures it.

What this site is

A reference for 190 of the most-searched colors from Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, Behr, Valspar and PPG. Each color page shows the facts the brand publishes (LRV, RGB and hex), then what the brands don’t show: the undertone and the closest colors in every other brand, ranked by the ΔE 2000 color difference. There is also a color matcher and side-by-side comparisons.

What it is not

A hex value describes a color on a screen, not on your wall. Sheen, light and the base each brand uses all change how a color looks, so a match here is a starting point, not a guarantee. Always paint a physical sample before you buy. Paint Color Lab is not affiliated with, or paid by, any paint brand.

How the facts are checked

Every color was checked by hand on the brand’s own color page, and each page links to that source and shows the date it was checked. The calculations (Lab values, undertones and color differences) use the open-source colour-science library. Details are on the methodology page.

How the site makes money

The site may show Google AdSense ads to cover its costs. Ads are kept apart from the color data and never change a match or a ranking. No brand can pay to appear or to move up.

Who runs it

Publisher: Biel Vazquez (NIF 39961668L), Cambrils (Tarragona), Spain.
